Press Release - Cancellation of the first part of the 19th International Festival of Sacred Music and Art in Barcelona, Spain due to the spread of the health emergency COVID-19.
Dear friend of Sacred Music,
2020 is proving to be an exceptional year, due to the spread of the COVID-19 health emergency. It has put every area of our lives, both public and private, to the test, with serious consequences in the economic and working environment, as well as in the human and social relationships of each of us.
The Fondazione Pro Musica e Arte Sacra also had to face this dramatic emergency. We have tried until the very end to keep to our long-planned commitments, but the implementation of the health protocols adapted to current regulations and the state of emergency has unfortunately forced the Fondazione Pro Musica e Arte Sacra to cancel the first part of the 19th International Festival of Sacred Music and Art, which was to take place in Barcelona, Spain, from 12 to 14 September 2020 in the Basilicas of Santa Maria del Pi, Santa Maria del Mar and at the Sagrada Família. The concert of the Wiener Philharmoniker conducted by Christian Thielemann, scheduled for September 13 in the Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família with Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 4, will be moved to autumn 2021. We are working on the programming for the second part of the Festival, scheduled to take place in Rome from November 11 to 17, of which we will give further news shortly.
The Fondazione Pro Musica e Arte Sacra greets with affection its supporters, friends and warm audience, confident to return soon to share the joy of live music and the splendour of the basilicas and churches that frame our Festival.
